nothing like rereading a book you loved when you were younger only to realize the author can't write
i just think they shouldve gotten ONE hug where they werent enchanted or like. dying
when they were younger elyan used to think that leon had a crush on gwen because he would always offer to braid her hair or tie it up with ribbons and tell her how pretty it was. but when he confronted gwen about it, she laughed so hard she doubled over and then, through her giggles, explained that leon played with her hair so much because he was jealous of it. his mother always sheared his hair short and wouldn’t let him keep it long, and after she’d heard she offered her own until one day he could grow it to the length he wanted.
so when elyan comes back to camelot and he sees leon (it must be leon, jaw stronger and face more drawn than the boy he’d known but the same bright eyes) with his chin-length curls, he can’t help the smile that pulls at his mouth or the unexpectedly choked “it looks good like that”. and leon is only surprised for a moment before a shy but brilliantly pleased smile brightens his eyes all the more and he says “i always thought it would”.
